Why I love Balasana (Child's Pose) and it's benefits for everyone!
The place of Rest and Surrender, I personally love this particular asana, it is the point in my yoga practice between the movement and the meditation.
A moment where flowing out of movement and into stillness, deeply reconnecting with the breath and surrendering anything stressful out of my body's system and allowing it to melt into the mat.
Balasana is a place to feel safe and secure, not only with it's gentle stretching benefits on the body focusing on the hips, thighs, ankles and spine, increasing blood circulation to the head, bringing a fresh supply of oxygen and nutrients to this area for a more calm and clear perspective within the mind. Balasana also helps us alleviate moments of anxiety, stress, overwhelming feelings and fatigue.
The perfect pose in the moments where we want to feel held, loved and supported, and we have the power to provide these vital caring elements to ourselves through the beautiful pose of child!
Anyone can achieve child's pose!
Let's blast some preconceived ideas out of our thinking here, Yoga is for everyone! You don't require your body to be super bendy or flexible, we can be any beautiful shape or size for yoga. It is a practice of listening to the body and what you need at that present moment, Balasana is a great one to start with though!
It doesn't matter if our buttocks don't reach our heels when we come to rest on them for child, we can use cushions, blankets, blocks and other yoga props to support our bodies and how they are feeling that day!
